Western Australia is the largest state in Australia and occupies close to 1/3rd of the land area of Australia. Strangely enough it has only 2.7 million people of which close to 80 percent live in Perth. That makes the remainder of the state extremely sparsely populated.
WA's economy has two drivers that are very related to scrap metal trading: mining (the 1st industry of Western Australia) and construction. It's also the largest iron ore producer in the world so metal is big business with a big history in this state.
If you want to trade scrap metal in Western Australia, then you should make sure you learn the laws first. Recently (1st of december, 2020) new additions have been passed to combat the theft of copper (see the police site of this state) and it's likely that the laws get even stricter in the future. Of course the trade of gold and silver was already regulated previously.
The laws in WA stipulate that scrap metal buyers need to register with the police and that records be kept for purchases of scrap metal. So you should prepare to bring your ID with you when you bring your scrap to the yard and that the transaction will be logged.
