Connecticut is a small, but rich state in the north east of the country. It has a strong manufacturing background and recently blue collar jobs are on the rise again. It makes for a constant need of metal and therefore scrap metal is good business.
The scrap metal laws in Connecticut are not complex but there are some basic things that are worth getting your head around. When you sell scrap metal to a scrap yard in Connecticut, the scrap yard will keep a copy of your identification. This can be a passport or driving license. The Vehicle that the seller arrived in will also need to be recorded by taking a photo of the model and license plate number. Photos must also be taken of all materials brought. All these records must be kept by the scrap yard for at least 2 years.
If you are scrapping a car, the scrap yard will be required to report it to the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System. During investigation of scrap theft law enforcement have the power to put a hold on materials for up to 5 days. This will not be a problem for anyone selling legally acquired scrap. Just make sure to take your ID with you to the scrap yard.
The first city that we will recommend scrap yards in is Hartford, Connecticut's state capital. Our favorite scrap yards in Hartford are: Sims Metal Management, Hartford Metal Solutions and G&S Scrap Metal. I would be careful with other yards in this area particularly Corona's Auto Parts, Towing and Auto-Body inc - stay away from this place. They have bad customer service and terrible prices.
Bridgeport is the largest city in Connecticut by population, its metropolitan area has a million residence. The best scrap yards in Bridgeport are: H & C Scrap Metals, Bridgeport Scrap Metals INC and People's Junk Removal. All great options with really competitive prices.
New Haven, the second largest city in Connecticut, has a few really good scrap yards. Our favorites are: Alderman & Dow Iron & Metal and Chase Waste Material Corporation.
Other cities in CT for which he have the latest scrap prices and the best scrap yards are Stamford and Waterbury.
