Washington DC is the capital of the United States of America and its only federal district. It used to be known as "District of Columbia", but is nowadays just referred to as Washington or colloquially as DC (or D.C.). It was founded as the capital in 1791.
DC is the 20th largest city in the US by population, with close to 700 thousand people living there on an area of a little over 61 square miles.
Besides mostly being known for it's governmental functions, it's also very well renowned for its architecture as well as its famous museums. A lot of the buildings in DC are very well known in the US as well as around the world. The most famous examples of course are the white house and the capitol, but there are several others that are widely renowned.
The museums in DC are also very well known and a major tourist attrication. The Smithsonian museums are usually the ones that come to mind first, but there's also the National gallery of Art and many other smaller museums. And not a museum, but certainly a place with a lot of history artifacts is the National Archives (that house the Declaration of Independence and other documents).
Economically the city is very diverse, although a large part of the economy is related to governmental service functions (around 25%). Tourism is also a big driver of the economy, which is explained by the attractions above.
All in all this means the city is doing well and construction remains steady, which in turn leads to a good scrap metal market.
There are not too many good scrap yards in D.C. directly so you may need to go Maryland or Virginia. The only one we could find in D.C. is Institute-Scrap Recycling on 1250 H Street, but we're not sure how good this place is.
