New Jersey Scrap Metal Prices - USA

Selling Scrap in New Jersey

The Garden State is a densely populated state that's known for a lot of things, but maybe mostly for bordering on the great state of New York. This may sound a bit disparaging as there are a lot of great things in the state of New Jersey.

New Jersey is a very diverse state, where people from a lot of different backgrounds live and many languages are spoken. It's also quite a wealthy state with a very diverse economy. Due to this active economy there's always a strong demand for scrap metals and you can certainly find a lot of opportunities to sell metals here.

We always stress how important it is that you understand what you need to do and the information that you will have to give and be kept.  We have been through the legislation to summarize what we think is important for you to know before selling scrap in New Jersey.

New Jersey has fairly standard scrap metal regulations, which have last been updated in 2013 (see the NJ Citation).

You as the seller are required to:

  • Identify yourself with a State or Federal driver's license or any other government-issued photo ID

The scrap yard is required to do the following:

  • Verify your identify based on a photograph-bearing ID, such as a driver's license or other ID issued by the government;
  • Make a copy of that ID and record it;
  • Maintain detailed records for 5 years for purchases over 100 lbs or $50USD (whichever is less);

So basically just bring a photo ID and you're good to go.

Best Scrap Yards in New Jersey

We have investigated the major cities in NJ to find out where the better scrap yards are. Here is a list of cities for which we have prepared a list:

For those living New Jersey's largest city, Newark, our research should the best scrap yards to be Sims Metal Management and H&C Metals Inc. We found the best scrap yards in Jersey city to be: Ray's Auto Wreckers and Sims Metal Management. Both offer amazing service and competitive prices. If you need information on other areas in New Jersey get in touch.

Unfortunately the Garden State doesn't only have great scrap yards. We've done a bit of digging around on Yelp and Google Reviews to see which scrap yards you should NOT be going to. This is where you may get terrible customer service, bad prices, cheated or something else!

  • Two Brothers Scrap Metal Inc: this scrap yard in Farmingdale has received a lot of negative Google reviews. Some visitors claim that the scale is off and that you'll get ripped off. You've been warned!
  • Curcio Scrap Metal Inc: the prices here are lower than other places and service is reported to be poor.
  • GM Scrap and Metal, LLC: this place in Paterson has poor service according to some reviews on Google. It also doesn't appear to have the greatest prices.
  • AmeriCycle in Hainesport: reportedly terrible prices and customer service..
