We have a huge amount of experience in the scrap metal industry and we have been helping people get involved and make money in this industry. Some of these formed their own business to source scrap metal, while others just wanted to make some extra money. One thing that we see from those new to the industry, is a lack of understanding of the laws that surround the buying and selling of scrap metal. Having been in the industry for many years, we have seen how the laws have become more and more strict and better enforced. All in an attempt to make the trade of stolen scrap metal harder.
Each state in the US has its own laws, varying massively. West Virginia has some of the more lenient laws in the US not requiring too much from the seller. We have been through the laws in West Virginia and made a short list of everything that we think you need to know before heading out to start selling scrap metal. Obviously you need to take your ID. Always take your ID with you when selling scrap metal in West Virginia. No scrap yard will buy anything off you without it. They will also take a copy of your ID and keep it in a transaction record for at least three years along with you vehicle description and license plate and a description of the material. This transaction record will also be reported to the authorities within three days of the transaction.
Now that you have an Idea of the process for selling scrap metal in West Virginia let's take a look at some of the best scrap yards that the state has to offer. Starting in the West Virginia's largest and capital city, Charleston, our research found that the scrap yards that customers had the best experience with are: Capitol Recycling and CRHC Metal. Both offer great service and prices.
