The scrap metal industry can seem complex and hard to get into when you first get into it. And we should know - we have helped hundreds of people have success on their journey to making money (and in some cases a living) from buying and selling scrap metal. Something that is a trend among newcomers is to ask about sourcing materials, getting the best prices and making connections with the industry. While these are all great questions, there is something equally as important that we rarely get asked but always cover. What laws govern the sale of scrap metals in your state? Scrap metal laws have gotten much stricter over the past 25 years and each state in the US has it's own laws. Some are incredibly strict, while others can be very lenient.
Wyoming is definitely one of the more lenient states. We have been through the laws that govern buying and selling scrap metal in Wyoming and summarized the basics that you need to know before heading to the scrap yard. Firstly, take your ID! You will need to show a valid ID everywhere in US so also in Wyoming. Surprisingly, Wyoming does not require records for the majority of sales (although many scrap yards do keep them). Scrap yards are only required to keep records on the sale of vehicles. These records must be kept for 3 years.
Now that we have been through the laws, let's take a look at some of our favorite scrap yards in Wyoming. Starting with Wyoming's largest city and capital, Cheyenne. Our research has show that the best scrap yard in Cheyenne is Wyoming Salvage Co. These guys offer amazing customer service and have the best prices around. If you are operating in a different part of the country and need to find that latest scrap prices and/or regulations then check out our page on scrap metal prices in the USA.
